At best, they were treated as little more than an inconvenience; separated from their siblings, given a uniform and a number and stripped of their identity.

For many, it was far worse; with thousands subjected to serious sexual assault and violence by the very persons charged with supervising and caring for them.

These children had committed no crime; their ‘sin’ was simply to be born into families who were unable to look after them.

Many survivors have taken decades to come forward due to feelings of shame, guilt and embarrassment that were never theirs to bear. What happened is not your fault. You were taken advantage of by predators and let down by a system that should have known better. You deserved better and are entitled to justice.
